Cabinet
I used primed 1 x 10 mdf boards because they are cheap.
Glued and screwed the boards together and painted the inside with flat black.
I was concerned with the mdf splitting when attaching the corner protectors with wood screws. So I put in hardwood dowels for the wood screws. In the end, I felt it was not needed and did not use them on the speaker cab.
So that the corner protectors lay flat against the cab, a countersink was utilized.
Glued and screwed cleats for attaching front panel.
Tolex was marked and cut. Tolex supplied by Stewart-Macdonald guitar supplies.
Dap-Weldwood contact cement was used to apply tolex. For instructions on how to tolex, visit casey4's tutorial on tolexing.
Cab awaiting panels and hardware.
Grill cloth for the panel was cut a couple of inches bigger than the panel itself. The grill cloth I used was Wicker G13 from Jenkins Sound Shop
The cloth was then centered on the panel and a crease was pinched into the cloth along the top.
Next, a crease was pinched into the cloth along the side of the panel. Then the cloth was aligned to the panel using the creases and tacked down in the top corner with a staple.
I pulled the cloth snug and along the top and tacked it down. At this point the top was aligned and snug so I tacked down the rest of the top panel.
The same procedure was followed for the sides and bottom of the panel. I used this tutorial as a guide.
Finished amp head.
Handle and corner protectors from Stewart - Macdonald.
The speaker enclosure was built in the same manner as the head enclosure. First boards were glued and screwed.
Detail of butt joint.
The edges were rounded over with a 1/2" round over bit and all sides were sanded down. The interior was then painted black and tolex was applied to the exterior.
The baffle board is made out of 1/2" void free birch plywood. The speaker hole was marked and cut.
T-nuts were installed for mounting the speaker and the baffle was painted black.
The grill cloth was attached to the baffle in the same way it was attached to the front panel.
Finished speaker cabinet.
Celestion G12H30 mounted to baffle.
Completed head & cab.
